Melissa "Missie" Cope McCleary, 56, passed away peacefully at her home, March 7, 2023, with her family by her side. She was born to the late Eugene and Anita Hill Cope on November 2, 1966, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She graduated from Baker High School in 1984. She had a big heart and child-like spirit. Her kindness was felt by all who encountered her. She enjoyed watching her "shows", telling stories about her "skating rink days", and always willing to lend a listening ear. She always looked forward to a daily phone call from each of her children.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, James "Jay" Walter McCleary, Jr., and her three children: Megan Anita McCleary, James "Trey" Walter McCleary, III and wife, Erin Mann McCleary, and Hayden Quade McCleary; granddaughter, Avy Jane McCleary; father and mother-in-law, James "Pat" Walter, McCleary, Sr. and Sue McCleary; brother and sister in laws, Scott and Michelle Venable and Jeff and Monica McCleary; nephews, Garrett Venable and wife, Carly, Cody McCleary and Brandon McCleary; she is also survived by her loyal teacup poodle companion, Bella and grand-dog Gracie.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 9:00 AM until the memorial service at 11:00 AM. Graveside burial at Hillcrest Cemetery to follow for immediate family only.
