Sheran Melvin "Frenchie" Fontenot

A resident of Baker, and a native of Ville Platte, Louisiana, Sheran passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015 at The Butterfly Wing of Hospice of Baton Rouge. He was 91, a retired Boilermaker with Local 582, and a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served aboard the USS Pennsylvania BB-38.

Visiting at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 5657 Thomas Road, Baton Rouge, on Thursday, January 15, 9am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11am, celebrated by Father Frank Bass. Interment with military honors will follow at Louisiana National Cemetery.

Sheran is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marjorie Y. Fontenot; son, John Simoneaux and wife Kathy of Denham Springs; sister, Ruby Verna Rougeau of Pine Prairie; brother, Mayner A. Fontenot and wife Margie of Ville Platte; grandchildren, John M. Simoneaux, Jr. of Baton Rouge, Amy and Matt Smith of Watson, and Gavin and Jana Simoneaux of Richmond, Texas; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Joseph Fontenot; mother, Eula Buller Fontenot; paternal grandfather, Eraste O. Fontenot; paternal grandmother, Cora Martin Fontenot; maternal grandfather, Arestile E. Buller; maternal grandmother, Martha Durio Buller; brother, Kermit W. Fontenot; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Willie Mae and Raymond F. Benson, and Robbie J. and George Deacon III, and Dudley Rougeau.

Sheran was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger days. He loved God, his family, and his country, and he was devoted to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Sacred Heart School Foundation, 114 Trojan Lane, Ville Platte, LA 70586.
