A resident of Slaughter, Ruby passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was 70, and a native of Birmingham.

Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Monday, May 12, from 59pm, and on Tuesday, May 13, from 9am until religious services in the chapel at 11am. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker. Pallbearers will be Hunter Crowder, Trent Crowder, Zachary Johnson, Ed Crowder, III, Paul Johnson, and Darron Mullins. Honorary pallbearers are Duane Strain and Lauryn Johnson.

Ruby is survived by a daughter, Lori Johnson and husband, Paul a son, Ed Crowder, III, and wife, Sherry two sisters, Shirley Mullins and husband Buddy, and Barbara Jean Deason brother, Sonny Norred and wife Doris four grandchildren, Hunter Crowder and fiance Danielle Betz, Zachary Johnson, Trent Crowder, and Lauryn Elizabeth Johnson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Willie E. Crowder, Jr., two brothers, Mike and Jimbo Norred two sisters, Betty Carraway and Sarah Ray and her parents, Luther and Nettie Norred.

Ruby loved her family more than she loved life. She was the life of the party everywhere she went, and will be greatly missed.

Special thanks to the staff of St. Joseph Hospice, and to Drs. Charles Wood and Bryan J. Bienvenu at Mary Byrd Perkins Cancer Center.
