Opal Smith

Opal B. Smith, a lovely Christian Lady with a strong spirit and a faithful heart, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the age of 86 at her residence surrounded by her family. Surly goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6. Her Christian faith and values allowed us to experience Jesus as a friend and savior. She gave us love, physical, emotional, and spiritual nourishment. She instilled in us values and principles that have forever shaped our lives. She was a stay-at-home Mother with a commitment to raising her children in faith and in good character. Her family devotions were always centered on the Lord. We were blessed to have her at our side for every important occasion in our lives. Our successes and accomplishments in life are a direct result of her encouragement and commitment to us. Her example and daily practices of her beliefs have nurtured generations. She is survived by her Son and Daughter-in-law: Malcolm and Lydia G. Smith of Jackson, La., her Daughter and Son-in-law: Wanda and Michael Templeton of Central, La. Four Grandchildren, Donna Halphen, Ric Smith, Ashley Cole and Andrew Templeton. Four Great Grandchildren, Taylor, Ash-lin, and Kennedy Halphen and Hayden Smith. Two Sisters-in-law: Peggy Blaire and Gladys Valiant. Preceded in death by her Parents; Horace and Callie Blair, and three Brothers; Lee Otis, Gene and Herby Blair. Pallbearers will be Ric Smith, Taylor and Stephen Halphen, Andrew Templeton, Scott Landry and Henry Martinez. Visiting will be at Foster Road Baptist Church at 11333 Foster Road on Sunday January 3, 2010 from 5:00-9:00 pm and again on Monday January 4, 2010 from 9:00 until religious services at 10:00 am conducted by Rev. Huey Moak. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker, La. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to her sitter, Nancy Savant, for her unconditional love and care that she has provided. Memorial donations may be made to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge. br
