Mitchell Funderburk

Mitchell "Mitch" Wayne Funderburk, 58, died on Monday, January 4, 2016 at his hunting camp in St Francisville. He was born December 28th 1957 in Baton Rouge, to Jimmie and Rose Funderburk. A graduate of Baker High School, he served his country in the U.S. Army from 1975-1978. Mitch retired as District Chief in April 2015 with 30 years service with the Baton Rouge Fire Department. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who always enjoyed the outdoors. He was a member of Big Track Hunting Club where he spent time hunting. He recently bought a camp at Toledo Bend where he and Lori, and his sidekick Luis Barragan, planned to spend many days fishing.

Mitch is survived by his wife of 13 years, Lori Hopkins Funderburk; children, Leslea and Cliff Wascom, Lauren McClendon, Amy Funderburk, and Darryl Whittington, Jr.; six grandchildren, Alexis, Christian, Landin, Conner, Tucker and Lillian; mother, Rose Funderburk; brother and sister-in-law Darren and Fonda Funderburk; sister, Cheryl Fielding; numerous nieces and nephews; and his uncle, "Unk" Donald Helmke, who was like a second father to him.

He was preceded in death by his father Jimmie Wayne Funderburk.

Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Saturday, January 9, from 9am until religious services in the chapel at noon, conducted by Scotty Owens. Fittingly, an Honor Guard will be provided by local fire fighters.

Serving as pallbearers are Cliff Wascom, Alex Funderburk, Jeremy Combs, Matthew Bush, DJ Whittington, and Michael Roberts. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Helmke and Luis Barragan.
