Maureen Cupit

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7)." Maureen Dawkins Cupit, 89 years old, a native of Louin, MS, was called to be with her Lord and Savior on January 23, 2019. She was born to William Garland and Sallie Mae Dawkins on November 18, 1929 in Rose Hill, MS. She received her BS in Nursing from University of Tennessee in Memphis. She later became a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and worked as a at Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary, LA where she retired after thirty-five years of service. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge.

Beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, she is survived by her daughter Jana Smith Owens and husband, David Owens and her son Gary Garland Smith and wife, Vikki Lukenbill Smith, her grandchildren Natalie Owens Gagliano and husband, Danny Gagliano, Sarah Owens Davis and husband, Brad Davis, Kayleigh Smith, and Ashleigh Smith Creech and husband, Darren Creech, great grandchildren Tristan, Patrick and Evie Davis, Skylar Gagliano, Rylie and Madison Creech; sisters Ruth Vickery and Cheryl Tullos and a host of nieces and nephews.

Maureen is preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Benton Smith, husband, Harold Shelton Cupit, father, William Garland Dawkins, mother, Sallie Mae Huddleston Dawkins, sister, Marilyn Dawkins Wallace, and brothers, William and George Dawkins and son, Ronnie Smith.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:30 a.m., officiated by Reverend Becky Poor. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 6213 Groom Rd, in Baker, LA.
