Obituary

Mary Ruth Campbell Creel, a devoted servant of God and the heart of her family, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 30, 2026. She passed away peacefully at the age of 89, on what would have been her mother's 116th birthday, surrounded by the warmth, prayers, and love of her family.

Her life began on November 30, 1936, in Oxford, Pennsylvania, when she was born to Anna and Walter Campbell. From her earliest days, Mary carried a spirit of kindness and grace that would define her entire life. A native of Pennsylvania, she completed her education in Downingtown. She served as a dedicated bookkeeper for Sears and Roebuck. She later became a preschool teacher at First Baptist Church of Zachary. In this role, she dedicated herself to the vital work of guiding young children through their foundational years of growth and discovery. As a dedicated homemaker, she poured her heart into creating a sanctuary of comfort and love for her family. Her hands were always busy serving others, and her home was a place where everyone felt welcomed and cherished.

Mary's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She was a deeply valued and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Zachary, where she worshiped, served, and shared Christ's love with her community. Her legacy of love, devotion to family, and unwavering faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Mary is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Jean Miller and her husband, Robert of Zachary, and Melissa Creel Stevenson and her husband Tommy, of St. Francisville; son, Robert Stevens "Bobby" Creel, Jr. and his wife, Terri, of Zachary; 7 grandchildren, Ashlee Miller Baker (Taylor), Mary Jane Miller, Natalie Marie Creel, Matthew Stevens Creel, Katie Stevenson Scharff (Erik), Kelsey Stevenson Launey (Sean), and Tommy Stevenson, III (Sera); 5 great-grandchildren, Aubree and Aiden Baker, Esther Stevenson, and Louise and Eliza Launey; sister, Nancy Machulski; sister in-law, Julia Campbell; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Robert Stevens "Bob" Creel, Sr.; father, Walter Campbell; mother, Anna Lee Chappel Campbell; brothers, Robert Campbell, Joseph Campbell, Paul Campbell, and Thomas Campbell; and sister in-law and very close friend, Mary Beth Dwire.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Stevenson, Robert "Bobby" Creel, Jr., Matthew Creel, Robert Miller, Taylor Baker, Jr., and Peter Johnson.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA, on Friday, July 3rd, 2026, from 9:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 10:00 AM, officiated by Dr. Eddie Wren. The graveside service and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, in Baker, Louisiana.
