Obituary

Marlene Allen Taylor, a cherished matriarch, devoted friend, and a bright light to all who knew her, was peacefully called home on July 14, 2026. She passed away at the age of 77, enveloped in the deep love, prayers, and presence of her devoted family.

Marlene's journey began on January 19, 1949, in Columbia, South Carolina, when she was born into the loving arms of her parents, Louise and Raymond Allen, Sr. From the very beginning, Marlene possessed a vibrant spirit and a heart designed for connection, bringing immense joy to her family and community.

To Marlene, family was not just a part of life, it was her entire world. She poured her heart into creating a warm, nurturing home where unconditional love was felt by every generation. She possessed an infectious zest for life, greeting each new day with gratitude, grace, and an enduring faith that guided her every step.

Among her many passions, Marlene was perhaps happiest when her kitchen was full. She was a gifted cook who understood that food was a language of love. Her delicious meals brought people together, creating a sanctuary of laughter, shared stories, and lasting memories around the dinner table. Her legacy of love, warmth, and hospitality will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Marlene is survived by her daughter, Dawn "Bette" Russo (Vince); sons, Dennis Spillman (Lisa) and Derrick Spillman, 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Bubba Allen (Treba); 4 sisters, Marsha Fontana (Steve), Mary Peters (Eddie), Betty McKowen, and Dianna Zeringue (Michael); and a host of nieces and nephews.

Marlene is preceded in death by her 1st husband, Bud Spillman; 2nd husband, Ronnie Taylor; father, Raymond Allen, Sr.; mother, Louise Carruth Saynes; and brother, Alton Carruth.

Serving as pallbearers will be Buddy Spillman, Devyn Spillman, Austin Spillman, Bailey Spillman, Vance Russo, and Cade Russo.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA, on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 9:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, officiated by Brother Chris Wales. The graveside service and burial will follow at Zoar Baptist Church Cemetery, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
