Larry Randall Thomas
Larry passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 8:05 a.m. at Sage Rehabilitation Hospital in Baton Rouge at the age of 79. Larry was from Waynesboro, MS living in Baker, LA for the past 51 years. He graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1957 and attended Jones Jr. College where he played football and was selected as Jr. College All-American. He continued his football career at McNeese State graduating in 1959 with a BS degree. Larry attended Mississippi State receiving a Masters Degree in Biology. After coaching in Kosciusko, MS for 6 years he moved to Baker where he taught and coached for 33 years and retired in 1999. He loved Baker High and all he coached over the years.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Berdell Thomas and Byrdie Thomas.
Larry is survived by his wife, Katherine Annette Thomas; 3 sons, Jay Thomas and wife, Jan of Natchitoches, LA, Chris Thomas, of Aberdeen, MS, and Ty Thomas and wife, Karen of Central, LA; 4 grandchildren, Canaan Thomas, Seth Thomas, Hannah Thomas and Haley Thomas; brother, Baron Thomas and wife, Beverly of Kinder, LA; 3 sisters, Judy Graham and husband, Charles of Clinton, MS, Deb Fields and husband, Vaughan of Laurel, MS, and Terry Thomas of Hattiesburg, MS; sister-in-law, Virginia Palmer and husband, Tom or Waynesboro, MS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Gardner, Jackie Mullens, Greg Carroll, Alan Walls, Scott Dietrich and Kerry Kowen. Honorary pallbearers will be Baker Boyd, Albert Dake, Bo Farris, Richie Bullock, Goose Carroll, Jerry Epperson, Ronnie Stevens, Fletcher Garig, Sonny Miller, Jimmy Langlois, Mike Shields, Tim Matt, Lloyd May, Warren Pratt, Buddy Bowman, Richie Ory, and Ruben Walker.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at First Baptist Church of Baker, 3213 Groom Road, Baker, LA, on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, August, 16, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. until the religious service at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Reverend Christopher Thomas and Reverend Jay Avance. The graveside service and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker.
Larry loved First Baptist Church in Baker where he taught Sunday School and was a Deacon for many years.
The family wishes to thank all of the employees and Doctors that took great care of him while he was a patient at Sage Rehabilitation Hospital.
