Joy White Cook, 84, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on September 26, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 26, 1941, in Ripley, Tennessee, to Mary Lou and Scott White, Sr.
Joy leaves behind her devoted husband of 66 years, James "Mickey" M. Cook; her daughter, Valerie Cook Toney and husband Mike Toney; four grandchildren, Brian and Mitchel Maclean and their father Robert Maclean, Meagan Toney, and Ross Toney and his wife Anna; her newest great-grandson, Carter Toney; and a host of cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Joy Michelle "Schelle" Maclean; her brothers, Bob White and Scott White, Jr.; and her sisters, Doris White Brown, MaryAnn White Marks, Carol White Benson, and Sue White Chalk.
Joy was a woman who made everyone feel welcome in her home. Family and friends fondly recall waking up to her famous "chocolate gravy and biscuits." She delighted in life's simple pleasures, especially time spent with loved ones at the family's Dauphin Island beach house. An active member of Bridge Clubs, the Louisiana and Tennessee Republican Women's groups, and her community, Joy cherished fellowship and friendships. She also worked as a Realtor, where her kindness and dedication touched many lives. Above all, Joy will be remembered for her deep love for her family and her unwavering spirit as a devoted New Orleans Saints and Pelicans fan.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brian Maclean and Mitchel Maclean and Ross Toney, along with her nephews.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA, from 2:00 PM until the Celebration of Life service at 4:00 PM. Words of remembrance will be shared by her nephew, Tommy White. A graveside service and burial will be held on a later date in Ripley, Tennessee.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and caretakers who provided such loving care to Joy. Special appreciation is given to the staff of St. Joseph's Carpenter House of Baton Rouge for the comfort and compassion they offered during her final days.
