Janice Elaine Lafferty Whiddon, a woman of profound faith and unwavering devotion, was called home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 18, 2026. At 70 years old, she passed peacefully in Austin, Tx, surrounded by the warmth and love of the family she cherished so deeply.
Jan's journey began on September 1, 1955, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she was born to her devoted parents, Jean and Robert Lafferty. From her earliest days in the Red Stick city, she carried a spirit of kindness and a diligent work ethic that would define her entire life.
A pillar of her community and a faithful servant of God, Jan was a longtime, dedicated member of Foster Road Baptist Church and Zoar Baptist Church. Her commitment to her faith was reflected in her many years of service as a Church Secretary for Foster Road Baptist Church and Zachary United Methodist Church, where her organized hand and compassionate heart touched the lives of countless congregants. Her professional life was marked by the same steadiness and reliability; she served as a respected secretary, bookkeeper, and scheduler for Climatron A/C and Heating, earning the esteem of colleagues and clients alike.
Above all her accomplishments, Jan was defined by her roles as a beloved spouse, mother and grandmother. She was the heart of her home, providing a foundation of love, prayer, and gentle guidance. Her legacy is one of selfless service, quiet strength, and an enduring love for her family and her Savior.
Jan is survived by her three loving sons and their spouses, Jeremy and Idania, Robert and Joy, and Adam and Heather; her grandchildren Brayden, Skylar, Jayce, Briana, Myles, Cheyenne, Regan, and Anabelle; brother Jeff and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, J.W. "Dub" Whiddon, her parents, Robert Clifton Lafferty and Evie Jean "Gigi" Lang Lafferty, and her brothers George and Ronnie Lafferty. While her family mourns her passing, they find comfort in the assurance that she is reunited with her loved ones and resting in the eternal arms of Jesus.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the viewing at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Rd, Baker, LA 70714, on Thursday 22 January 2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and visitation at Baker Funeral Home, on 23 January 2026, from 9:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, officiated by Glen Miers. The graveside service and burial will immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, in Baker, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Zoar Baptist Church in her honor at www.zoarbaptist.org/give, and Jan specifically requested to "perform an act of kindness, spend time with someone in need of a visit, enjoy today...look forward to tomorrow."
