James "Bucey" Malcolm Schlatre, Sr.,
A resident of Baker and a native of Plaquemine, Malcolm was strong in his faith. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Clarity Hospice surrounded by his family after a battle with brain cancer. He read the Bible and attended church services regularly. He was an avid sports fan and an arm chair coach. He proudly served our country in the United States National Guard. Malcolm was a strong willed person who rarely asked for help, however, he was there to help others.
Malcolm is survived by two sons, James "Malcolm" Schlatre, Jr. of Baker, LA and Timothy Richard Schlatre and wife, Kristie of Central, LA; three grandchildren, Regan Ann Pickering of Baker, Ava and Bryce Schlatre of Central; one sister, Kathleen Schlatre Berthelot of Denham Springs, LA; three brothers, John Alden Schlatre and wife, Charlene of Central, Joseph Larry Schlatre, Sr. and wife, Jeanette of Plaquemine, Joseph Earl Schlatre of Donaldsonville, LA and a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Malcom was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Richard Schlatre, Sr. and Maude Bourgoyne Schlatre; his daughter, Cheryl Schlatre Pickering; two brothers, Norman Richard Schlatre, Jr. and Charles Newton Schlatre; three sisters, Rosemary Schlatre Rhorer, Maxine Schlatre Berthelot and Estelle Schlatre Pitre.
Visiting will be observed Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 5657 Thomas Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70811 from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker.
Reverend Frank Bass, pastor of St. Isidore Catholic Church will will officiate the funeral services.
Pallbearers will be Malcolm Schlatre, Jr., Larry Schlatre, Earl Schlatre, Michael Schlatre, Jimmy Schlatre and Tommy Pitre. Honorary Pallbearers will be Timothy Schlatre, Alden Schlatre, Norman Keith, Randy "Gaboo" Berthelot, Joseph "Bubba" Brashear & Auber F. Shows, Jr.
The family would like to thank everyone at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge for the love and compassion they showed to Malcolm and the family during his stay.
