James Bates

James C. "Gator" Bates

A loving father and Pawpaw, and a resident of Zachary, James passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015. He was 59 and a native of Summit, MS.

Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Thursday, April 16 from 10am until memorial service in the chapel at 11am.

James is survived by his loving children, Jessica Bates, Christopher Bates and his wife Flavia, and Erika Bates; six grandchildren, Kiersten, Rylee, Laela, Hayden, Cayde, and Brynn Jayme; previous wife, Kathleen Bates; four brothers, Thomas "Butch" Bates, Gerald Bates, Robert Bates, and William "Bill" Bates; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Earline Bates.

James was an avid golfer and loved football. He graduated from Baker High School in 1973 and was a long-time golf pro assistant. He was currently working as a hot-shot driver for Red Stick Hot-Shot LLC.
