James Waldo Banes, Jr.

A resident of Baker, Jay passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 68, and a native of Laurel, MS. He was a retired bread deliveryman, and was a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran of the Vietnam War.

Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Tuesday, July 21, from 5-9pm. Graveside services with military honors will be held at Old Marion Cemetery, Marion, MS, on Thursday, July 23 at 1:00pm.

Jay is survived by wife, Doris Smith Banes; two daughters, Victoria Renee' Banes Mulligan and husband, Gerald; and Christy Michelle Banes Pearson and husband, Blake; three sons, Brian Ashley Banes, Joseph Thomas Banes, and Steven Todd Banes; sister, Betty Pigford and husband, Frank "Sonny"; 11 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine and Waldo Banes.

Jay was member of First Baptist Church of Gulfport, MS, and attended First Baptist Church of Baker. He enjoyed golfing, and was a member of Gulf Central States.
