Edgar John Guilbeau, Jr., affectionately known as Heck, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, in Gonzales, Louisiana. Born on September 1, 1931, in Plaucheville, Louisiana, Edgar was a man whose life was characterized by his generosity, humor, and unwavering friendliness.
The Guilbeau family mourns the loss of a devoted patriarch, with Edgar predeceased by his beloved wife of 41 years, Martha, his son Aaron, his parents Edgar Sr. and Denise Guilbeau, and his siblings Harry, Neal, Byron, Gilroy, Levy, Wilfred, Maydel Mayeaux, and Elma Lachney. His legacy lives on through his sister Muriel Guillory, his sons Mark (Clarence), wife Debbie, Terry, and Marlon, wife Connie, also Minnie, the daughter he never had, and his cherished grandchildren Nicholas, Jason, Josh, Hannah, Lane, Step-granddaughters, Blaire Land, Ally Allen, and 15 Great-Grandchildren, the numerous special friends, including his LSU Tailgate Family and Omaha CWS Family, will also hold dear the memories of Edgar's generosity and spirit.
Edgar valued hard work and the joy of watching things grow. He grew up working on his family's farm, where he then made a living as a farmer. He later moved to Baton Rouge and retired from Town & Country Furniture after 27+ years.
A devout Catholic, Edgar's faith guided him throughout his life, providing him with strength and comfort. He was a man who lived his beliefs, embodying kindness and compassion in his daily interactions.
Those who knew Edgar will fondly remember his passion for raising farm animals, tending to his large garden, and continuing his coonass traditions of making boucherie, cracklins, boudin and sausage, which he generously shared with friends and family. A die-hard LSU sports fan, he attended his first LSU football game in 1946 and was a season ticket holder for LSU football for over 30 years. He was also a fixture at the College World Series in Omaha first attending in 2000 and every year since 2003. He saw the Tigers win 4 CWS Championships.
Edgar's life was filled with laughter, and his humor brought joy to every gathering. He had the rare ability to light up a room and make lasting friendships wherever he went. His presence was a gift, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
