Dontine Stamps

Dontine John Stamps, 82 years old, born June 4, 1935, in Columbia, Mississippi and passed away June 2, 2018. A man who loved his family, fishing, and was a Hero to his two sons. He served in the National Guard for two years, the United States Army for two years, and was a Baton Rouge Policeman for 32 years, retiring as a lieutenant. He was the youngest, and last surviving sibling, of 7 children, born to Chester and Anna Stamps.

Dontine is survived by his sweet heart and love of his life for 62 years, his wife, Agnes Stamps; the pride of his life, two sons, Andrew Q. Stamps and John "Johnny" C. Stamps and wife Tina (who he thought of as a daughter); grandchildren, Shannon Briley Melancon and husband Seth, Shonda Marie Dupre husband Joey, and Shana Briley; seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; special nieces and nephews, Ronnie Stamps, Billie Pope, Daphne Willis, and Sadie Rayburn; brother's in-law, Jimmie McKenzie and wife Joyce, Bruce McKenzie and partner Keith, Don Garrison, and Roy Aucoin; and sister in-law, Melba Howell and husband Skipper. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, Gena McKenzie, Staci Wroten and husband Rusty, Mike McKenzie and wife Stephenie, Lynn Nola Prejean and husband Brian, Dana Nola Stanford, Michelle Nola, Donnie Garrison and wife Stacy, Jamie Garrison and wife Cheri, Kristy Aucoin, Dean Aucoin and Ginger Pierce and husband Glynn.

Dontine is preceded in death by his father in-law and mother in-law, A.Q. and Lena McKenzie, and Irlene and Elbert Pope; and sister's in-law, Martha Garrison and Mary Aucoin.

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA, on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until the religious service begins at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Reverend Arnold Austin. The graveside service and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker.
