David Whitlock, Jr.

December 13, 1941 — February 24, 2018

David Whitlock, Jr.

David Warren Whitlock Jr., 76, was called home by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 24, 2018. He passed away peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Sharon, of 51 years and his family. David, affectionally known as "Dickie" by his family was born in Natchez, Mississippi and was a resident of Zachary, Louisiana.

David spent his cherished childhood memories in Natchez and Bude Mississippi. He graduated from Baker High School and studied Electrical Engineering at LA Tech and LSU.
David joined the Marines in 1964 and participated in the largest amphibious landing since WWII known as "Operation Steel Pike One" in Spain. He was honorably discharged in 1970 with the rank of Staff Sergeant and was the Weapons Platoon leader.

David was a member of First Baptist Church in Zachary and the Plains Masonic Lodge #135. Electrical work of any kind was his passion. He had a work ethic like no other. In his younger days, Dave installed power lines in Bunkie, LA. Later, he was employed by Plantation Pipeline and worked in Collins, MS where he met his wife. David started his own electrical business in Zachary and finished out his career working 26 years for Georgia Pacific and Tembec paper mills as an Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor. He did consulting work with TreCon after his retirement.

His greatest passion was spending quality time with his grandchildren. His 3 beautiful angels couldn't have asked for a more caring and loving Paw-Paw who whole heartedly gave of his time and loved every minute of it. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, projects, and spending time with his family who he so lovingly took care of and provided for through all of his years. His kind and compassionate soul touched all who crossed paths with him. David often lent a helping hand to others in need and will be greatly missed by family and friends.

David is survived by his loving wife, Sharon McGee Whitlock; son, David "Dennis" Warren Whitlock III of Zachary; two daughters, Tammy Mendoza and husband Richard of Gulf Breeze, Florida and Cathy Poole and husband Brad of Lafayette; three granddaughters, Kate Poole, Cameron Poole, and Gabriella Mendoza; and sister, Julie Nance and husband Fred of Prairieville.

David is preceded in death by his father, David Warren Whitlock, Sr.; and mother, Irene Ponder Whitlock.

Pallbearers are David (Dennis) Whitlock III, Brad Poole, Richard Mendoza, Fred Nance, Denny Efferson, Jimmy Esch, Jamie Harmon, and John Williams.
Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy Kimball, Luke Beard, and John Parker.
