Samuel Vernon Reeves, 93 years old, beloved Father, was called to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, March 24, 2019, at the age of 93. He entered this world on April 14, 1925, born to Samuel and M. Christine Reeves in Jayess, MS. Samuel (SV, or sometimes called Vernon) was a past Baker High School graduate and a long-time resident of Baker (known as the candy man because he owned and operated his candy business, Baker Supply). He and his wife Carolyn later moved to Zachary, living there for over 40 years.
SV was a loving husband to his wife Carolyn for nearly 50 years before she proceeded him to heaven. He is survived by his three children, Stan Reeves, Sr., and wife Becky of Zachary, Sandra Reeves of Birmingham, AL, Johnny Reeves, and wife Patricia, of Clinton. He was Paw-Paw to Michelle, Jonathon, Nathan, Stan Jr., Molly, Wendi, Maggie, Anna, and Kasey, as well as being a great-grandfather, and great great-grandfather.
SV was a United States Navy Veteran, having served during WWII. He also served as a probation officer for several years while living in Baker. He loved God and his family. He was a wonderful example of honoring his father and his mother in order to live a long life blessed by the Lord. He never met a stranger. SV loved football, and was a faithful LSU football fan for over 70 years. He loved to travel and took his family on many vacations throughout the United States, as well as camping, fishing, and hunting trips.
Pallbearers will be: Stan Reeves, Jr., Jonathon Baxter, Nathan MacNichol, Brian Peterson, as well as other family members.
Preceded in death by his parents, Samuel V. Reeves and M. Christine (Price) Reeves, seven siblings, as well as his loving wife, Carolyn (Granger) Reeves, and granddaughter, Michelle Walters.
Many thanks to each one who took special care of him for the nearly 14 years he was a resident of Zachary Manor. Special thanks to Joyce Young, and Cathy Babcock, who went out of their way to always be supportive.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, La, on Thursday, March 28, 2019, from 11:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM conducted by Reverend Matt Hays.
